Amelia Urdaneta is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice is rooted in material research, experimentation, and documentation through painting, textiles, and object-making. Working with natural fibers, metals, earth-based pigments, and organic processes—including experimentation with color-producing bacteria—she investigates how materials transform over time and the meanings that emerge through these gradual changes.

Her textile practice explores natural dyeing, biological pigmentation, and the relationship between color, fiber, and time. Through projects such as Landslides, she examines processes of decay and transformation by allowing soil, moisture, fungi, and bacteria to alter her work, challenging ideas of permanence, authorship, and materiality. Her methodology is intentionally slow and experimental, grounded in observation, repetition, and careful documentation.

During her residency at Texere, Amelia hopes to deepen her understanding of Oaxaca’s textile traditions, natural dye practices, spinning, and weaving, while exploring the cultural and historical significance of these techniques. She sees the residency as an opportunity to expand the material research that informs her practice and the development of her thesis. Amelia also looks forward to sharing her work through a participatory workshop that invites the community to explore natural pigments, textile transformation, and the evolving relationship between cloth, earth, and time.
