Margaret Carlson

  • Texere Union 21A Santa Maria del Tule Mexico (mapa)

Margaret is a passionate textile artist with a strong foundation in natural dyes and print design. She graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2018 with a BFA in Fibers, where she honed her skills in natural dye techniques, as well as print and pattern design. During her time at SCAD, she completed a natural dye apprenticeship with Miranda Bennett Studio, focusing on indigo and other plant-based dyes, which deepened her appreciation for sustainable and nature-inspired textiles.

Since graduating, Margaret has worked in the home textiles department at Urban Outfitters and for the past five years at Free People, where she creates feminine, nature-inspired prints for intimates and dresses. Beyond her professional work, she spends her free time upcycling vintage textiles and garments, continuously exploring new techniques and ways to evolve as an artist.

Her work is a celebration of nature, craftsmanship, and innovation. During her residency at Texere, Margaret aims to learn from other creatives and draw inspiration from the natural beauty and vibrant environment of Oaxaca, deepening her connection to textiles and the communities that bring them to life.
