Venetia Galanaki is a weaver and natural dyer from Crete, Greece. Coming from a lineage of women deeply engaged in textile practices, she learned alongside them from an early age, carrying forward an intergenerational legacy with humility and devotion. Her relationship with the loom emerged intuitively—when she first began weaving, her hands seemed to remember the movements, leading her into a lifelong dialogue with thread and time.
Her practice is rooted in the locality of materials and in learning directly from master Cretan weavers—women who hold ancestral knowledge in their hands and lived experience. Venetia is committed to preserving and transmitting traditional Cretan weaving and natural dyeing techniques, while exploring how these domestic crafts can remain meaningful and present in contemporary life.
Her work investigates the relationships between materials, landscape, women, and collective memory, bridging tradition, territory, and community.
